--------------------------- | DO IT YOURSELF INSTALLATION | --------------------------- * INTRODUCTION * This section outlines the steps you must follow in order to properly install your new turf.Of course, if you wish to discuss any aspects of the installation process we would be happy to help. Please call us on 61-7-3114 8230 * STEP 1 - Preparation * 1) Spray any existing grass or weeds using Roundup or a similar chemical being sure to follow the manufacturers recommendations. Wait 7 to 10 days. 2) Remove debris. Shape ground to desired levels being careful to achieve correct drainage. 3) Rotary hoe or cover with organic soil to a depth of 50 to 100mm. If you need soil delivered direct to your home then please call us 07-3114 8230. 4) When selecting soil use only a screened product preferably an organic under turf mix. At a depth of 100mm you will need 1 cubic metre to cover 10 square metres. If you only want a depth of 50 mm then you will need to order 1 cubic metre of soil for every 20 square metres of turf area. 5) Spread the soil and smooth by raking 6) Prepare a sketch of your site and using a tape measure mark the dimensions of the different areas and note any unusual features. If you wish you can email or fax your sketch to us and we will calculate the amount of turf you will need. * STEP 2 - Ordering your turf * 1) Order your turf for the day you plan to install it 2) Ensure you have the necessary tools to complete your installation. You will need a cutting spade (or a large knife), a roller, a hose, a wheelbarrow and a rake. 3) Obtain a good Turf Starter Fertiliser. Check the recommended application rate to calculate how much you will need. Pre plant fertiliser is a must for successful turf establishment. We can home deliver a professional turf starter (order now). 4) If you wish, a sales representative can come to your house and give you a no obligation price to install the turf for you. Please contact us. * STEP 3 - Installing your new turf * 1) Spread fertiliser on soil 2) Start at a straight edge such as a path or driveway 3) Stagger the joints in each new row like a row of bricks 4) Make sure all joints (sides & ends) are butted together tightly without overlapping 5) Use a large knife of spade for cutting turf around tress, beds and edging 6) Water your turf as you go, starting 15 minutes after you lay the first roll 7) After you have installed all of your turf, use your roller to smooth out any footprints etc. This will also remove any air pockets and ensure the turf makes good contact with the soil. 8) Give the whole area a good soaking. We recommend 25mm of water for it's first watering. To measure simply place a container under the sprinkler until it has 25mm in the bottom * STEP 4 - Watering shchedule * Following the initial soaking you will need to ensure your new turf does not dry out on the surface. You may need 1 or 2 light waterings per day for the first few days until the turf starts to put some roots down. Of course, this will depend on what time of the year you are installing your new turf. Be careful not to over water. After the initial establishment of your new turf (14-21 days) you should follow the maintenance information we have provided. Go to the home page and choose 'Turf Maintenance' on the left hand menu bar where we have outlined what you will need to do to make sure you have the best looking lawn in your street.
