Erosion Control
Straw Mulching
After the area has been seeded, either by way of hydroseeding or mechanical seeding, straw mulch is blown over the surface. This mulch is then sprayed with a binder to keep it in place whilst awaiting seed germination.
The disadvantage of this system is the amount of material used and time taken to firstly seed and then straw mulch. The process can be more expensive than hydromulching which is carried out in one operation.
Straw is commonly applied at a rate of 200 to 300 bales per ha with bituminous emulsion at a rate of 2000 litres per ha.
Where the site is in close proximity to residential or traffic areas, a Polymer binder should be used in place of the bitumen.
