Our Products - Erosion Control

Remediation

ESI have developed a reputation for cost effective remediation and revegetation using a range of innovative products and techniques.

ESI has been able to re-establish vegetation in a range of situations including formally contaminated soil, heavily eroded barren soil, landfills and degredated streambanks.

Project A

Project Mt. Taylor. Kingston
Client Environmental Protection Agency
Site 6 Hectares

Details

This was a previously contaminated site which has been rehabilitated some years ago. The site had become severely degraded and eroded due to the materials and methods used when originally rehabilitated. In some places the entire clay capping had eroded through to the geosynthetic liner.

Process

The clay capping was reinstated after repairing the damaged liner. A 'keyline' cultivation system was used to key the topsoil into the clay capping.

The area was revegetated using a combination of techniques including turf, STAYturf and hydromulching.

Results

ESI carried out an eight week post installation maintenance program. This area has since been returned to use as open space.

Project B

Project SMR Range Greenbank Barracks
Client Fulton Hogan Constructions
Site 12,000 msq

Details

The site was a severely eroded and degraded range with large bare areas and deep eroded gullies. The aim was to repair the eroded areas and establish permanent grass cover to the open areas, whilst maintaining the existing trees and shrubs.

Process

Select fill (5,000 cubic metres) was imported and used to repair the eroded areas. The drains were shaped and STAYturf was installed into them. In the open grass areas, the Yeomans ripping system was used to decompact the subgrade. The soil amendments, which included gypsum and organic fertilisers were then spread and incorporated into the subgrade. Following this, the area was hydromulched using a mixture of native and couch seed.

Results

After a six week maintenance period, the site was returned to normal use.

Project C

Project Millmerran Water Supply
Client Clough Engineering
Site Water Storage Dam and Borrow Pit

Details

Following construction of the water storage dam, the external batters were hydromulched using a special blend of organic mulches including woodfibre and sugar cane mulch. The borrow pit area was scarified and mechanically seeded.

Results

Poor water quality resulted in some mixed results with the initial process, however, generally the grassing was successful and minimal erosion has been experienced.

Project D

Project Creekbank Stabilisation
Client Brisbane City Council
Site Local Creek Sunnybank Hills

Details

Following realignment of the creek, the banks required stabilisation. In places where overland flow was expected to be concentrated, STAYturf was installed down the bank. STAYlogs were installed along the waterline and the balance of the area was seeded. The STAYturf was watered for a period of approximately 4 weeks. No further maintenance was required.

Results

The revegatation was successful and the bank fully stabilised.
