Case Study 1
Erosion demage repair
Application
- Semi rural subdivision
- Culvert outflow
Customer
- Pine Rivers Shire Council
Location
- Samford, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Problem
- A culvert outflow from kerb and channel road has severely eroded a steep slope (40%). The channel is 85 metres long.
Challenge
- The customer was looking for a high degree of erosion protection without resorting to rock or concrete. The client did not wish to import large quantities of topsoil to enable vegetation to establish.
STAYturf Solution
- The area was prepared using light machinery and a channel 2.75 metres wide was shaped using existing soil (slightly rocky).
- The STAYturf was installed and pegged using 150 mm steel wire staples.
- The STAYturf was watered regularly for 10 days and then left.
Results
- Being in a very hot, dry area, some of the grass died back after watering ceased. However, the first thunderstorm arrived 2 weeks later and the channel held perfectly. The dry areas disappeared and the grass returned to full cover.
