Fertilising
To maintain your lawn in top class condition it will need regular applications of fertiliser. Healthy, deep rooted turf has better tolerance to stress, better winter colour retention and will reduce the germination of weeds.
Prior to installation of turf, test your soil and amend the Ph as necessary. The pH should be between 6.5 and 7. To raise the pH apply Granular Lime, and to condition your soil we recommend applying Renovator Organics (N:5 P:3 K:6). This is an excellent blended organic fertiliser which will improve soil condition, aid microbial activity and improve moisture retention in sandy soil. This should be mixed into the soil profile.
For clay based soils we recommend using Granular Gypsum. This product will improve heavy clay soils and increase calcium which is an important element to healthy turf growth. This should also be mixed through the soil.
When installing your turf you have several options regarding which fertiliser to use.
Lesco Poly Plus® Starter fertiliser (N:18 P:10 K:9) applied at 2.75kg/100m² will give your turf a great start by providing an excellent balance of nutrients.
Lesco Ronstar Plus Starter fertiliser combines a pre-emergent herbicide with starter fertiliser. This product will enhance the growth of your turf and prevent the germination of weeds such as Summergrass, Crowsfoot, Wintergrass and Creeping Oxalis.
Note: Ronstar should not be used on St. Augustine, Sir Walter, ST85 or Soft Leaf Buffalo grasses.
Once your turf has established and regular mowing has begun, you should start a regular program of fertilizing.
Approximately 6 - 8 weeks after installation we recommend Lesco Poly Plus® Controlled Release Fertiliser (N:24 P:2 K:9 + Iron) applied at 2.1kg/100m². This should be applied every 8 - 12 weeks.
