Scarifying

Scarifying

Most of the varieties will require scarifying to maintain healthy growth. Thick, dense thatch prevents moisture penetration and can lead to fungal and disease problems.

Fast spinning vertical blades cut through the dense thatch, removing the dead and decaying material. The blades should go down to the top of the soil profile.

All of the material generated must be removed. Scarifying should be followed with fertilising and topdressing if required.

Scarifying should be carried out in spring or early summer.
