New turf or new lawn

New turf or new lawn

Do you need turf or a lawn? Language can be a funny thing, two words can seem to mean the same thing, but sometimes they are more nuanced than they seem.

What is turf?

When it comes to grass you most often hear us call it turf. I mean it is right there in our name, Jimboomba Turf Group. We research, we develop, we grow and most importantly we KNOW turf. But do our customers want turf or do they want a lawn?

Turf is a science, it is hybrid breeding programs like Dr Brian Schwartz and his TifTuf product. Or it is selective breeding and like David Douget and his Sir Grange (zeon) product. And locally it is Lawn Solutions Australia who take all the best turf grasses from these programs and then test and restest in local conditions to find the best turf for local conditions.

What is a lawn?

When customers think of grass they usually think of a lawn. It is a living space, it is a part of their family. Many of our earliest memories come from playing on our lawn. And as we grow up and become homeowners our own children play on the same lawn. And then finally as we get older again with more free time our lawn becomes our hobby and our pride and joy.

While you might be thinking about buying turf, what you are really buying is a new lawn. Once it is installed in your home it stops being a singular piece of grass and becomes space. We entertain friends, we play with our family or our pets, we relax buy tending to it or we just sit back and watch it grow. But however you enjoy your new lawn, it is very much a lawn and not turf.

What does this mean when it comes to buy grass?

When you speak to us about which turf is best for your home we can tell you all the different characteristics of our varieties. Less mowing with Sir Grange, lower water bills with TifTuf or best in the shade from Sir Walter. But this is all about the turf.

To ensure you get what you really need you need to tell US about your lawn. How do you use your lawn? How much time do you want to spend looking after your lawn? How important to your home is your lawn? This will allow us to better match the right turf, to make your perfect lawn.
