Turf tips: Prepare your lawn for winter

With the weather finally cooling off and overnight temperatures dropping its time to consider what you can do to prepare your lawn for winter. A little work in autumn will go a long way to keeping your lawn in its best health all winter, giving you a head start next spring.

Something easy to prepare your lawn for winter

By leaving your grass longer the blades of grass are longer giving more surface area to soak up the sunshine. This allows your lawn to get more access to light despite the fewer daylight hours.

Something vital to prepare your lawn for winter

Use a good slow release fertiliser such as our Lawn Solutions Premium Lawn Fertiliser. You can also visit your local Bunnings store and select a lawn fertiliser from their vast range.

By fertilising before the onset of the coolest weather you get your lawn at its strongest. This will prepare your lawn for winter by building up nutrients before the leaner months.

Something for the serious lawn fanatic to prepare your lawn for winter

Your lawn breathes just like you and soil compaction reduces the amount of oxygen available to your lawn. Heavy rain and high traffic on your lawn from the active summer months are common causes of compaction.

Winter weeds

And one last tip, with the winter weather on our doorstep winter weeds are also upon us. Now is the time to be extra vigilant for weeds and to spray them out as soon as possible to prevent them from spreading. Winter weeds thrive in the cooler months and will take over your lawn if untreated.
